Highway Engineering

Taking a project from initial sketch to site supervision is something that Project Centre has excelled at for many years. On many projects, we have helped from the scheme inception, and have advised on feasibility evaluation and option selection through to preparing detailed designs, bill of quantities and specifications. We can also provide contract documentation, tender analysis, contract administration and site supervision procurement services.

Project Centre excels at producing well prepared preliminary and detailed designs that inform the project at early stages and also enable contractors to build the visions that our clients seek to achieve.

Our technical expertise covers all areas of highways design including vertical and horizontal alignment, drainage, carriageway and footway construction. Alignment and drainage designs are carried out using Civil 3D software which is supported by AutoCAD.

The quality of our designs is reflected in the build quality of the finished street. In collaboration with our clients, we specify palettes of cost effective materials that are both visually attractive and durable.

On the Exhibition Road project, we worked closely with architects Dixon Jones to produce high quality detailed designs for the street’s construction that incorporated drainage, tree pits, lighting, levels and statutory services so that on-site construction is proceeding without a hitch and is expected to be completed on time and within budget.

The quality of our designs has been recognised internationally and we have won major awards including a Civic Trust Awards for our designs for Kensington High Street and also Exhibition Road as well as CIHT awards, National Transport Awards and London Transport Awards for scheme such as Southall Broadway, Walthamstow High Street and Walworth Road.

At Project Centre, we have developed a methodology for highways engineering projects which supports the highway authority through every stage, including its implementation. We have wide experience in supervising contractors, liaising with residents and stakeholders and minimising disruption to traffic while streetworks are taking place.

As part of our integrated design approach, we involve the contractors who will be constructing the scheme at an early stage. This means that many construction issues will have already been resolved and a close working relationship has established with the contractors before site work commences.

We produce construction packages which include design drawings, traffic management phasing, bills of quantities and health and safety documentation. When Project Centre takes responsibility for site management, as well as making sure that the project is delivered on time and within budget, we make sure that the traffic flow on the network is maintained and the effects of construction activities on the general public is minimised.
