Oxford Street

Oxford Street

Westminster City Council commissioned Project Centre to carry out a major streetscape refurbishment scheme that involved the complete re-design of Oxford Street from Oxford Circus in the east to Marble Arch in the west.

The objective was to improve the pedestrian environment by increasing footway space and improving crossing facilities. Our lighting engineers redesigned street lighting to increase the luminance for the wider pavements as well as maintaining the lighting levels for the carriageway.

To further improve the shopping experience for visitors to this iconic London street, Project Centre was asked to improve the carriageway alignment, introduce new street trees and rationalise and improve the street furniture to reduce street clutter and improve the appearance of the street.

We were also asked to improve and rationalise the bus and taxi provision, incorporation design guidelines from London Transport Planning.

Project Centre was involved from the inception of the project through to detailed design and construction. We produced clear information for the public and helped manage the public consultation on the proposed improvements.

Our staff supervised the construction of the improvements and developed a close working relationship with all parties to ensure of one of the world’s premier retail destinations was finished and detailed to the highest quality.
