Eastcote Town Centre Rain Gardens shortlisted LI awards 2020
We are honoured to announce that Project Centre’s Eastcote Town Centre Rain Gardens has been shortlisted for a Landscape Institute Award, with the London Borough of Hillingdon, for Excellence in Flood and Water Management.
The Landscape Institute Awards have consistently been among the most prestigious accolades within the industry. This annual event seeks to showcase projects that inhabit the core values of the Landscape Institute, which include connectivity, sustainability and a seamless blend of nature and people. This year saw a record breaking and remarkable number of projects submitted with over 220, all competing for a place on the shortlist.
Eastcote Town Centre is located in a river valley which is an extremely vulnerable location in terms of flooding where even small rainfall events can be critical. Previously, even eighteen millimetres of rainfall would cause huge issues.
Samer Muhandes, Associate, was therefore delighted to see the value the rain gardens have had in Eastcote. In the midst of heavy rainfall, the whole area was drained within fifteen minutes with the exception of some localised areas where the sewers were ineffective and in need of maintenance. Despite this, after a short period the built-up areas were also drained.
We are incredibly proud of the work our Flood and Water Management team has done on this project and we are thrilled to have that work recognised on the shortlist. We can’t wait to see the other projects alongside us and we wish our competitors the best of luck!
