CV tips
The following sections should appear on your CV:

·       Personal details (name, address, telephone, email)

·       Education and qualifications

·       Skills

·       Work Experience

·       Interests

·       References

 

General guidelines for an effective CV

·       Says clearly who you are, what you've done and what you can offer an employer

·       Is full of action words describing what you do/did

·       Emphasises clearly your key skills and achievements

·       Contains nothing negative about you

·       Looks attractive - well laid out, easy to read and read 

 

Remember

·       Word process on good quality paper

·       Use reverse chronology i.e. most recent dates first

·       Use positive and focused language with plenty of 'action' words to create a more favourable impression

·       Make use of bullet points, bold, italics etc for emphasis being careful not to make the CV look too 'busy'

·       Never send a CV without a covering letter

 

Preparation for interview tips

·       Research the company, its competitors, position in the marketplace and challenges/developments within the industry

·       Prepare a list of questions that you think might be asked and plan your answers. A useful tip is to look at the job description - this should enable you to define the qualities the recruiter is looking for and emphasise the skills and experiences that you have which best demonstrate them
