Graduate Development Programme

So, you’re interested in joining Project Centre’s Graduate Development Programme? Read about it from the people that have done it before you, find out what our Graduate alumni say about their experience with us.

What will I be doing?

Your two-year development programme consists of up to three placement rotations from across the business. In every placement, you’ll receive all the training and support needed to succeed in your role.

Here at Project Centre, we specialise in several disciplines, so we understand that everyone’s career aspirations are different. We aim to equip you with the skillset and experience you need to succeed in your chosen career path.

  • Choose from Highways Engineering, Structures, Flood and Water Management, and Lighting and Technology
  • Choose from Transport and Development Planning, Traffic Engineering, Landscape and Urban Design, Parking, and Communications and Engagement

And if you’re not quite sure what you want to specialise in yet, that’s ok, the placements provide you with the experience and support to make that decision when you need to.

View our Roadmap and see what you could be doing over the next two years.

What will my salary and benefits be?

We know money’s important so let’s get that awkwardness out of the way early. We offer a competitive starting salary for all our graduates of £28,000.

Plus, you’ll enjoy many other benefits including:

  • 25 days annual leave
  • Flexible working
  • Annual membership to a professional institution, such as the Institute of Civil Engineers, Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation or the Landscape Institute.
  • Industry recognised qualifications
  • Internal networks such as our Women’s Learning and Development Network, People’s Champions and Social Committee
  • A variety of social activities and team building events
  • Westfield Health
  • Cycle scheme, and others

Where will I be based?

We recruit for Graduate positions across the UK but in 2024 we will be focused on our offices in Manchester and Edinburgh. We offer a mix of home and office working but it is important to meet your colleagues face-to-face as this helps with your training and relationship building.

Please note that some placements may include site visits.

What do I need to do to apply?

Applications for 2024 positions are currently under review.

Any CV’s held will be kept on file.

Once the review has taken place CVs will be evaluated and if you’re successful, you’ll take part in an assessment day. On the assessment day you will find out more about the opportunities at Project Centre, undertake a written assessment and interview before being notified of the outcome.

We accept a minimum entry of a 2:2 in any subject. You must already hold or be on track to achieve the required degree by the time the scheme starts.

What training will I receive?

We’ll support your development through a wide range of on-the-job practical experiences and through:

  • Classroom-led training courses
  • Online training courses
  • Structured networking opportunities with fellow Graduates

You’ll also receive one-to-one support throughout the programme from your:

  • Line manager: Responsible for your day-to-day management and supports your professional development through 121s, appraisals and coaching.
  • Buddy: Usually a graduate alumnus or someone on the next level up who is there to support you and ensure you feel welcomed into the organisation.

What’s next for me after the Graduate Development Programme?

There’s a lot of career opportunities at Project Centre after you finish your graduate programme, and your line manager will be there to support you with your next step.
