Signing and Lining Audit
Project Centre was commissioned to undertake an audit of all signs and road markings on selected key strategic, primary and secondary routes in Bolton, including a number of complete districts, with a view to rationalisation and de-cluttering of signing.
Bolton is located in the North West of England and close to the Pennine Moors. A former mill town, Bolton grew in terms of urbanisation during the industrial revolution, and now forms part of Greater Manchester and historically part of Lancashire.
Project Centre’s involvement included a comprehensive audit and review of all signs, road markings and corresponding Traffic Regulation Orders at predetermined sites and districtss across the borough. All data was photographed and recorded onto site collation sheets for subsequent incorporation into signing and road marking schedules. Specific remedial signing schedules were also produced to highlight problems and maintenance issues and clarify whether rationalisation and de-cluttering was possible.
The final output from the project was a comprehensive report with corresponding layout drawings showing sign locations and road markings, with appendices containing the signing and remedial schedules. The report enabled Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council to identify which road lengths and locations could be rationalised in terms of sign de-cluttering, so that the Council could in turn programme any remedial measures.
