Drainage Design

OVERVIEW

Our flood risk and drainage team are passionate about solutions which deliver multiple benefits for people, nature and the built environment. We work with public and private sector clients, supporting their planning needs through the preparation of Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies for housing and infrastructure developments, ensuring legislative compliance at various stages of the planning process.

We can prepare business cases to support feasibility studies for flood risk management schemes, including hydraulic modelling to evaluate the impact of proposed developments and catchment management practices. Our professionals also have experience in Natural Flood Management, an approach recommended by the Environment Agency where traditional hard engineered defences are not feasible or reach the end of their lifespan. For instance, restoring natural features and processes in modified watercourses to slow down the flow of water or store flood water in wetlands.

SUSTAINABLE DRAINAGE SYSTEMS

With Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) endorsed by the 2016 London Sustainable Drainage Action Plan and the London Plan, more schemes are expected to be launched both in the capital and cities across the UK. We can assist you with selecting the most appropriate SuDS measures for both new developments and retrofitting existing sites, helping to manage surface water in a more environmentally-sensitive way. We are proud to be part of the award-winning Australia Road Scheme delivered on behalf of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. Project Centre acted as project manager for the scheme which incorporates permeable paving, capturing rainfall and directing it to a series of bio-retention basins and rain gardens. By reducing pressure on the sewer network, as well as creating an enhanced public space and wildlife habitat, the project has become a flagship scheme for SuDS.
