Project Centre to help Sutton Northern Gateway get a face-lift
Project Centre are delighted to have secured an exciting opportunity to work with Sutton Council on the New Homes Bonus funded High Street regeneration scheme in the Northern Gateway of Sutton town centre. The scheme will include events, public realm enhancements, shop front improvements and art interventions. This will be delivered in partnership with Jan Kattein Architects who will lead on public realm strategy and shopfornt improvements.
Work now begins with an enthusiastic and excited group of stakeholders, including arts organisations, the local business improvement district, local residents, Council officers and Councillors to shape how the £500k investment can best be spent.
It is important to Sutton Council that this slightly neglected and sad-looking area of the High Street is improved now as there is large-scale housing development just to the North of the area and the Council want to attract and retain these new residents and their spend within the town centre in the future. The project will deliver a suite of complimentary interventions which change the visual appearance of the space as well as re-engaging local stakeholders with the opportunities the space creates; opportunities for activities, arts, everyday engagements and fun.
Initial design and engagement will start and continue over the Spring with the first phase of events planned for the summer and the physical improvement works kicking off towards the end of the year. The project will be led by Sam Neal and the regeneration team.
