Project Centre and TRL’s ‘Unlocking Mobility with Transport Technology’

We, alongside TRL, will be hosting a webinar on Thursday 29 April on future mobility and the challenges that we face. Urban spaces are rapidly changing, and we will be exploring how technology and innovations play a part in creating the cities of tomorrow. Our Regional Director Paul Chandler will be chairing the event of three unique presentations overcoming transport challenges with technology.

First off, presented by TRL Product Owner Anthony Hoffe, ‘The Future of Urban Traffic Control is Data’ will be revolving around open data principles and how this allowed Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) to start new Research and Development projects. TfGM’s Intelligent Transport Systems Engineer Hannah Tune will also explain the benefits they saw as a result of the implementation.

Next, our own Principal Traffic Engineer Allan Evans and Principal Traffic Modeller Ebenezer Harris will be presenting ‘Designing Signals for Cyclists’. Designing signals for cyclists has moved on since the days of painted markings and advance stop lines. We are now producing layouts that completely segregate cycle movements to provide safe and convenient active travel. We will show examples of schemes that have been developed in Greater London and the Liverpool City Region to illustrate the change in approach across the UK.

Lastly, Head of Technical Consulting James Long of Smart Mobility Living Lab (SMLL) will be presenting on ‘Taking a systems approach to support the deployment of new mobility modes in complex urban environments’. SMLL is focused on accelerating the creation of mobility solution that support safe, clean, efficient, reliable and convenient transport. James will be exploring how data can be used on our roads to support new mobility modes.

We pleased to be involved with such a fascinating array of presentations and hope to see many attendees come to learn about the innovations of urban mobility.
