Project Centre was commissioned by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to carry out full project management for the design, consultation and construction process of the Paddington Memorial Garden in Ladbroke Grove.
The project was compressed into a very short time frame to meet the anniversary of the rail crash and involved close working relationship with Railtrack, the British Transport Police, Central Government and the families of those affected.
Project Centre also co-ordinated the design with the artist for the memorial structure and designed the fountain detailing for the sculpture itself.
The scheme involved many technical difficulties including ground remediation and decontamination of the site, sensitive detailing to a 10 metre retaining wall and 36” cast iron gas main.
Specialised tree pit construction and ground preparation was also undertaken to allow planting as part of the design.
