Project Centre appoints new Head of Parking
Gordon Walker has been appointed Head of Parking at Project Centre. Gordon heads one of the most experienced and well respected parking design team in the country with 17 staff including nine engineers and four traffic order makers as well as its own dedicated parking communications officer. Surveyor Streetscene Article
Project Centre's article entitled 'Latest installment posthaste' has been included in the 1st November 2007 issue of the Surveyor Magazine. The article discusses the various ways that councils can make space for pedestrians.
Project Centre – winner of Consultant of the Year Award
We are delighted to announce that Project Centre in Partnership with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea were the overall winners for the Consultant of the Year category at the Highways Magazine Excellence Award.
The Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony took place on the evening of 9 November 2006 at The Great Hall, Institution of Civil Engineers, Westminster, London. Project Centre was short listed amongst consultancies like Halcrow Group and InterRoute Area 2.
The judges comment: “A very comprehensive package of information covering a wide area of their partnership approach. Good examples of innovative design, consultation issues well covered. Comprehensive and compelling.”
The win of Consultant of the Year Award is a welcomed accolade at this time as we are currently preparing to celebrate our 10 year Partnership with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
TfL extends Project Centre’s contract on Streets Framework Consultancy Agreement
Project Centre is delighted to announce that Transport for London (TfL) have confirmed the extension of the Streets Framework Consultancy Agreement Contract until 31 March 2008. This maintains Project Centre’s position as one of only three Band 1 Consultants on a contract that dates back from April 2002.
The extension, together with the Signal Schemes Design Consultancy Services Framework Contract, secures the continuation of a long standing relationship that has been developed by both, Project Centre and TfL, for specialist consultancy services - a relationship that that has also helped breed success across the capital.
CABE Space appoints Project Centre as corporate specialist advisor
Project Centre is pleased to announce that it has been appointed as a Corporate Enabler for CABE Space Enabling Panel (Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment) in May 2006. Project Centre’s specialists will be involved in advising various local authorities and organisations throughout England.
These advisors are: Peter Piet (Director, Urban Design), Geoff Bray (Technical Director Urban Design), David Moores (Principal Landscape Architect) and Joerg Tonndorf (Principal Transport Planner, Traffic Technology). They will assist and support organisations working to improve the quality of their public space including parks and green spaces, streets and squares.
CABE Space aims to bring excellence to the design, management and maintenance of parks and public space in our towns and cities.
Project Centre will be involved in various schemes providing advice in the planning, design management and maintenance of space through direct support, workshops, seminars and training events. The company is particularly pleased to have been appointed to this role which further demonstrates its skill base in this important area of expertise.

Project Centre at 6th UK VISSIM User Group Meeting in London
On 29th of June 2006, members of Project Centre Traffic Technology team will be attending the 6th UK VISSIM User Group Meeting at the Imperial College London organised in collaboration with staff from PTV-Karlsruhe and Faber Maunsell.
Joerg Tonndorf, Principal Transport Planner, Project Centre, will be presenting a paper on The Exhibition Road Project: from Option Testing to Detailed Design with PTV Vision.
Project Centre is conducting courses on Streetscape Guidance
Reese Deaves, Principal Engineer, Traffic and Transportation, is presently conducting training courses in conjunction with TMS on Streetscape Guidance.
Project Centre was involved in producing the Streetscape Guidance Manual on behalf of Transport for London, and it is now being presented to Transport for London staff.
The initial 10 single day courses will be run between April – June 2006.
Further training courses, yet to be confirmed, might involve other London Boroughs and Transport for London Framework Consultants.
Geoff Bray and Presentation for IAM
Geoff Bray, our Technical Director (Urban Design) recently gave a presentation to the Institute of Advanced Motorists on Traffic Sign Illumination: Past, Present and Future.
The presentation included the history of traffic signs, the lighting and reflectivity changes over the years.
Geoff’s presentation started by explaining that introduced under the Turnpike Act of the 18th century and concluded with illustrations of ‘high tech’ sign systems under development.
Project Centre Appointed by South Somerset District to carry out boroughwide Parking Study
Project Centre announces a major project win:
South Somerset District Council has appointed Project Centre to carry out a borough wide review of parking in the South Somerset area.
The commission will be carried out in three phases to include on and off street parking usage surveys, predictions of car parking demand to 2016, assessment of park and ride feasibility, impact assessment for developments of parking sites, impact on Decriminalised Parking Enforcement and assessment of decking potential to mitigate loss of parking spaces due to development proposals. Project Centre will also be modelling various scenarios relating to the introduction of charging in certain South Somerset District Council car parks.

Project Centre sponsored the 11th Annual Quality Streetscapes Conference which took place at the CBI Conference Centre, London on the 3rd May 2006.
Peter Piet, Project Centre’s Urban Design Director, delivered a paper on Public Realm improvement strategies.
A312 The Parkway, Tyrell Bridge and Bulls Bridge Roundabout
Project Centre Limited is pleased to announce the completion of construction stage for A312 The Parkway, Tyrell Bridge and Bulls Bridge Roundabout for Transport for London (TfL).
Project Centre was responsible for the design and engineers representative together with the planning supervisor role under the CDM Regulations.
The programme consisted of carriageway, footway and cycle track resurfacing works carried out overnight between 23 March - 11 April 2006. High friction surfacing and the footway works are due to commence on mid June 2006.

Residents of Southwark choose Project Centre design for Walworth Road
The transformation of the Walworth Road moved a step closer mid-February 2006 with the announcement that Project Centre's design has been chosen by local people as their preferred option for the South London thoroughfare.

Challenges Ahead
Project Centre cares about the industry and has facilitated a number of recent events.
Project Centre hosted an event called Challenges Ahead. This was a strategic seminar which included senior officers representing Local Authorities from across the SE England.
Project Centre has produced a joint Partnership Road Safety Calendar with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea as part of our ongoing partnership with the Royal Borough. A presentation was held in the Lord Mayor?s Parlour and attended by Project Centre, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and 100 local school children.
