PCL attend the opening of the Moreland Street Scheme

We were thrilled to attend the opening of the London Borough of Islington’s Moreland Street Scheme today.

Following the redevelopment of the Moreland Street Primary School, Islington Council appointed Project Centre to redesign the street. The key goal was to develop a healthy, active community focused space that would promote safety for the local residents and the school children.

We ensured that all of our proposals were compliant with the TfL Healthy Streets approach and measured our designs against the ten factors that make up the criteria, including noise reduction, ensuring there is clean air and a focus on relaxation. Furthermore, we developed our concepts by an extensive and active community engagement process where we gathered ideas and concerns from many different people, but crucially from the school children themselves. From this, we took inspiration from the pupils and incorporated colourful asphalt circles, trees, planting beds and vibrant street furniture. The finished design prioritises pedestrians and changes driver behaviour.
