Lucinda Jasper Speaks at London Build Expo
Earlier this week our Human Resources and Business Support Manager, Lucinda Jasper, was a speaker at the London Build Expo at Olympia. Her expertise and insights were quickly scouted by Oliver Kinross, a global business event organiser, who had planned this year’s London Build. Delighted to attend, Lucinda set to work with creating her topic of discussion.
With over two hundred companies in attendance, the largest construction show in London was a huge success. Seminars ranged from inspiring the next generation to the consequences of Brexit in engineering to a step by step guide to building the world’s tallest skyscraper. Lucinda took part in a panel discussion on skills and recruitment in the construction industry. Alongside Nahum Evans of Costain, Jonathan Loades of Paramount and Tammy Sternberg of Hawkins/Brown, she took part in an intense back and forth about the perils and pitfalls of recruitment, as well as the changing environment of the industry. She debated on the benefits and flaws of social media as a recruitment tool and astutely commented on the issues with male dominated management.
Lucinda then closed the day after all these engaging presentations with the incredible subject of creating a gender diverse workforce. Her talk broke down what it means to be diverse as well as the unconscious bias that is employed against minorities. She demonstrated her awareness of the detrimental effects of discrimination and explained her detailed approach to combating this with equality.
It was a particularly captivating day, surrounded by so many members of the industry with such bold ideas being displayed. We hope to return next year with even more speakers and continue networking with the wonderful people and companies we met. Congratulations to Lucinda also, for this fantastic opportunity.
