ICE London 2020 Award Finalists

ICE London 2020 Award Finalists

We are extremely proud to announce that we are finalists in the Institution of Civil Engineers London Awards 2020. Our project, Eastcote Town Centre Improvements, with the London Borough of Hillingdon, has been shortlisted and is now eligible for the following awards:

  • Greatest Contribution to London
  • Best Infrastructure Project
  • Innovation Award
  • Award for Community Benefit
  • Bazalgette Award for Sustainability and Resilience
  • Digital Engineering Award

Eastcote Town Centre in the London Borough of Hillingdon is located in an area vulnerable to flooding due to its topography. Rain gardens were introduced to provide a sustainable drainage system to reduce the flood risk and improve local amenity at the locations of existing raised planters. They have reduced the risk of flooding in the town from once a year to approximately once a decade.

The project has created green spaces on a large scale with the introduction of drought-resistant plants, and a range of plants which will be in season throughout the year. This will have additional biodiverse and amenity benefit to local residents. As part of the shortlisting, the project is also in the running for the People’s Choice Award voted for by the public.

Voting will open at on Friday 24 April at 10am, closing on Monday 18 May at 5pm.

Both our Flood and Water Management and DesignWorks teams were heavily involved in the design of this project and congratulations to all involved on this achievement.

We are also delighted that our Graduate Engineer, Adedapo Fasinro, has been shortlisted for the Rising Star Award. Ade joined us in September and has already made a big impact with rotations in Structures and Highways. She signed up to the ICE by becoming a pre–19 officer which aims to promote engineering to young people by creating awareness to the industry and has already held a school assembly for 120 students in her hometown of Luton. Good luck Ade!
